Connect

Connect is new for 2025! It’s a programme supporting those who need more time to get ready for a supported internship. Young people might move on from our Pre-Internship programme, or they might join straight into the Connect team.

Connect works with 18 to 24 year olds with an EHCP and facing additional barriers to moving onto employment. Connect eases interns in with a programme of short volunteering placements and training to get ready for the next step. Watch the short film below to learn more.

Welcome

I’m Jak and I really pleased to be leading the new Connect programme here at Lighthouse Futures Trust. Some of our interns need an extra hand to move them towards the world of work, and having already successfully completed their pre-internships, we recognised that their was a need for both our interns and other young people to provide something new that would help them transition smoothly: enter Connect!

The benefits of Connect

  • Opens up the interns skills and knowledge, helping them to decide which supported internship would suit them best
  • The additional skills and knowledge gives interns that may need additional help on their supported internship the opportunity to start with a confidence they may not previously have had
  • For those who may need to develop their self-confidence and independence, Connect opens up activities and places in the local community in a supported and comfortable way
  • Following on from the pre-internship programme, Connect interns continue to develop their lifeskills
  • Doing short placements with local companies means that interns will gain a network of role models and mentors, and potentially find future volunteering and/or paid employment with those companies
