MPORTANT UPDATE: SEND Transport Industrial Action

16 February 2026Caisha FieldhouseNews, Uncategorised

We have received an official update from the Local Authority regarding the upcoming potential strikes affecting Home to College transport for our Interns.

We have sent this letter out via email to all parents and carers, which you can find here
Please check this letter for the latest information on how the Council plans to manage transport on strike days.
The college remains fully open on all dates, and we look forward to seeing our Interns on campus.
Industrial Action: Transport FAQs for Parents and Carers
Following the notification of potential strike action by the UNITE union affecting Passenger Transport, we have compiled the following information to help you plan for your young person’s attendance.
1. Is the college still open on strike days?
Yes. The college will remain fully open on all announced strike dates. Our staff will be on-site as usual, and we expect all Interns to attend their scheduled sessions.
2. What if my young person’s transport does not arrive?
The expectation is that parents and carers will make every effort to arrange alternative transport to ensure their young person’s routine and learning are not disrupted. If you have absolutely no way of getting your young person to college, please contact the college office as soon as possible on the morning of the strike.
3. Can I book a taxi and claim the money back?
You may choose to book a private taxi at your own discretion. However, please be aware that reimbursement is not guaranteed. The Local Authority has not yet confirmed if they will cover these costs. If you do book a taxi:
  • You must keep all receipts (printed or digital).
  • The college cannot book or pay for these taxis on your behalf.
  • You will need to contact the Council’s Passenger Transport team directly regarding any future claims.
4. How will my young person’s attendance be recorded?
  • If they attend: Attendance will be marked as usual.
  • If transport is unavailable: If your young person cannot attend solely because the Council failed to provide transport, we will record this accordingly so their attendance record is protected.
5. Who should I contact for updates on my specific route?
The strike action is being taken by Council employees, not college staff. For the most accurate information regarding whether your specific minibus or taxi route is running, please contact the Local Authority Passenger Transport Team directly.
