Supported Employment
While interns are with Lighthouse Futures Trust we want them to all to experience a range of employability interventions to help them in their search for their first job and beyond.
We therefore aim to provide the following activities, and others, for interns to take part in, all of which are organised and delivered by employability specialists.

Access to a small group in a supported setting that focuses on developing workplace skills through ‘expeditionary-led learning’.
Our Pre-Internship Programme is topic-based with all sessions, activities, and workplace visits leading from and back to the main topic. Topics change each term and work towards an end product, for instance an event or a collection of work.
We often look at sustainability as one of our topics and make use of a range of different modes of transport when going on trips to support our interns’ travel training.
Interns following our Supported Internship Programme also work in small groups in college as we find that this suits their learning styles much better.

Access to a wellbeing curriculum which helps to address challenges, develop an understanding of feelings and build resilience within the context of the world around them.
As part of the taught curriculum. interns take part in activities designed to promote their wellbeing, enabling them to grow in their independence. These sessions can range from discussions around what to wear to work to banking and money workshops from leading high street banks.
Clubs and workplace visits support this by giving interns opportunities that they may not otherwise think to take part in.

Timetabled access to the Careers Lab to explore activities tailored towards their employment aspirations. The Careers Lab allows students to explore work tasks across a variety of roles and industries within the familiarity of their college base.
Each week, during the Pre-Internship programme, interns spend time in our careers lab exploring different jobs and tasks associated with them. This gives interns the chance to try things out and helps them think about what job they might like in the future.

A careers guidance interview with a qualified and impartial careers advisor, so interns are best able to make an informed decision about a suitable destination for their supported internship.
