Housekeeping is for you if you like organising, keeping things clean and tidy, and helping companies to present the best side of themselves. It’s not just about cleaning; housekeeping is part of customer service, health & safety, employee engagement, sales and marketing, operations, facilities and event management.

Design jobs are for creative people who generally have some previous experience and can use a range of different types of software. Their can often be training available, or you might find an apprenticeship for example. Design studios have other jobs available though, so if you’re great at organising things, project management, and meeting deadlines, you might also find an opportunity for you.

Working in a facilities team is for you if you like understanding how things work and fixing things. The facilities team look after both a company’s building and all the fixtures and fitting within it. That means that you could be involved with plumbing, electrics, painting and decorating, gardening, IT, health & safety and many more things.

Customer service is for you if you like working with people. You need to be patient, resilient, helpful and cheerful. You need to know about the product or service that you are selling, and be ready to answer questions. Working in customer services means making sure that someone always has a great experience, but it also sometimes means working with some trickier customers!

If you like details and data and want to work on a computer in an office then administration is for you. Administration usually involves following processes and procedures to ensure information is correctly inputted. Administrators analyse the information to help improve ways of working, product and service design, or create reports for meetings.

Construction is for you if you like building and making things. It could be largely based outside and in all weathers. You will need to have some knowledge of processes and operating machinery but training is often available. As well as building, construction offers a range of other roles such as project management, design, finance, administration and customer service.

Horticulture is for you if you like working outside. it could involve gardening, landscaping, working in a nursery or garden centre, or helping to develop and maintain areas for wildlife to grow and thrive. It will most likely be manual work, but may also involve other skills such as administration, design or customer service.

Manufacturing often takes place inside a factory. There will be various roles available and some will need some level of technical knowledge, for example being able to drive a forklift truck. Manufacturing sites often have offices too where roles are available in finance, stock control, customer service and sales, design and administration.

There’s more to retail than you’d think. Working in a shop offers many roles, for instance being in charge of displaying items, operating the tills, talking with customers about products, or keeping everything tidy and organised. Behind the scenes there are other jobs too, from ordering and taking delivery of stock to producing items, for example baking bread or sausage roles to be sold in the shop.

Working in finance is for you if you like numbers, maths and spreadsheets. There is a lot of administration involved and processing of important data. You need to have excellent attention to detail and be good with money. Training is often provided to enable progression in the role.

Hospitality includes many things, from barista to receptionist, from chef and kitchen assistant to event management… Depending on which aspect of hospitality you’d like to work in, you’ll need to have some key skills such as fantastic customer service, or knowledge of making food and drinks. Training is often provided.

Working in healthcare isn’t just about wanting to be a doctor, nurse or paramedic. There are plenty of other roles available such as receptionists, porters, administrators, cleaners, facilities teams, operations… Hospitals are GP surgeries need a lot of people to make them function correctly!
